Roma 5:16

5:16 And the gift is not like the one who sinned. ¹  For judgment, resulting from the one transgression, ²  led to condemnation, but ³  the gracious gift from the many failures ⁴  led to justification.

Roma 6:13

6:13 and do not present your members to sin as instruments ⁵  to be used for unrighteousness, ⁶  but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead and your members to God as instruments ⁷  to be used for righteousness.

Roma 12:2

12:2 Do not be conformed ⁸  to this present world, ⁹  but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve ¹⁰  what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.

Submission to Civil Government

13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except by God’s appointment, ¹¹  and the authorities that exist have been instituted by God.

It is very telling that being “conformed” to the present world is viewed as a passive notion, for it may suggest that it happens, in part, subconsciously. At the same time, the passive could well be a “permissive passive,” suggesting that there may be some consciousness of the conformity taking place. Most likely, it is a combination of both.

[12:2]  ¹⁰ sn The verb translated test and approve (δοκιμάζω, dokimazw) carries the sense of “test with a positive outcome,” “test so as to approve.”
